Analysis of ophthalmic manifestations of invasive rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis in COVID-19 patients in a medical college

To analyze different ophthalmic manifestations of rhino-orbital mucormycosis (ROM) infection in COVID-19 patients. Prospective interventional clinical study. 20 microbiologically confirmed ROCM cases with involvement hospitalized between May 2021 and July our center were included this Among there 9 female 11 male a mean age 57.5 years. All patients had uncontrolled type 2 diabetes diagnosis duration 3.67 COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome received corticosteroids. The time interval ROM was 3.46 days. 4 (20%) orbital apex syndrome, 16 (80%) presented cellulitis. CT scan/MRI revealed sino-orbital all patients, 3 these cerebral at initial presentation. intravenous amphotericin B 7 TRAMB undergone radical debridement involved sinuses. Despite measures, (7.5%) dissemination expired. Severe is associated significant incidence higher mortality rates due to immune dysregulation the widespread use steroids. An aggressive multidisciplinary approach can help reduce mortality.
